It’s a trio of celebrations for us at the just concluded 47th NIFST National Conference/AGM held at Umuahia, Abia State.
The Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST) held its 47th National Conference/AGM at the International Conference Center between 17th-20th, October 2023. The conference was graced by dignitaries from government, industry, and Non-governmental organizations; notably, the conference chairman Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe (Vice Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike), Keynote Speaker, His Excellency, Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, Abia State Governor was ably represented by Mr. Kenneth Kalu, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Prof. Abu, President, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, among others.
Lagos Chapter delegates were ably led by the chapter chairman – Mr. Olugbenga Aina and vice chairman, Mrs. Kikelomo Amoreoluwa.
The Conference with the theme; “Nigerian Foods For Global Market” was an activity of five-day events, ranging from technical sessions from industry to scientific paper presentations from the academics, exhibitions, excursions, and rounded up with the institute’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
NIFST-Lagos Chapter delegates emerged as national officers at the AGM, as the duo of Dr. Bola Osinowo and Mr. Rasaq Oke emerged as National Vice President 1 and Assistant National Secretary respectively to join the NIFST Executive Council.
Our conference outing was further colored by the triumph of our chapter at the Ajinomoto National culinary contest held at the conference, where Lagos Chapter representative, Mr. Ifedayo Emmanuel emerged as the National winner of the culinary contest after competing against right(8) other contestants from different NIFST Chapters.
